Saint John - Community

Saint John, population 125,000, is Canada's first incorporated city and the second largest city in Atlantic Canada.  It is situated on Canada's Atlantic seaboard on the southern coast of New Brunswick, 110 km (68 miles) from the U.S. border at Calais, Maine and a 2 hour flight from Toronto. Saint John provides a rich cultural heritage and many fine examples of historic architecture.  It features pristine parks, history-lined streets, quality dining and shopping.

In Saint John Harbour, the Bay of Fundy water mingles with the St. John River.  Because of the height of the tides and the geography of the river's mouth, this is not an ordinary river flowing out to sea.  Twice daily, the mighty St. John River is pushed backwards (upstream) by the Fundy tide.  This creates a phenomenon known world-wide as the Reversing Falls, Saint John's top tourist attraction.
