Cardiac Arrest - Code Blue

Code BLUE is the term used for urgent requests for medical assistance within the hospital. The term usually refers to a situation where a person is believed to have suffered a cardiac or respiratory arrest.

Any member of the hospital staff can initiate a Code BLUE by dialing 6666. The operator is notified of the Code BLUE, the nursing unit, or the location, and the room number. The operator reports the message over both the emergency and regular public address system 3 times.

Postgraduate Medical Trainees in Medicine, Surgery, and Anaesthesia are designated as members of the response team. General Postgraduate Medical trainees need not respond.
